有時候學英文我們只注重背單字 卻常常忽略了和單字互相組合的搭配詞

1. afraid
(x) The road to the arport was very busy and we were afraid to miss the plane.
(o) The road to the arport was very busy and we were afraid of missing the plane.
afraid 常見的用法是 be afraid of Ving 意思是焦慮或擔憂
相信大家都沒有問題
但事實上是有be afraid to V 的用法的 只是意思是因為害怕而不願去做某事
＝be unwilling to do sth because you are frightened about what may happen.
以上述例句來看 我們是擔憂搭不上飛機 而不是害怕所以不願搭飛機
以下的例句就可以用 be afraid to V
I was afraid to speak up in front of many people.
這邊就可以表搭出因為害怕而不願在人們前大聲講話的意思了
2. approve
approve of (Vi) 贊成、稱許 = have a good opinion
(x) My parents don't approve the friends I met in the night clubs.
(o) My parents don't approve of the friends I met in the night clubs.
approve (Vt)官方批准
Each year, CDER approves a wide range of new drugs and biological products.
3. raise (Vt) 舉、提高、籌集、引起、養育
raise your hand 舉手
raise your voice 提高聲音
raise the money 籌措資金
raise doubts 引起懷疑
raise children 養小孩
4. rise (Vi) 上升、增加、起床
The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. 太陽東升西落
My spirits rise whenever I think of my girlfriends. 不論何時我想到我女朋友總是精神一振
My grandfather rises at 5 every morning to do his exercises. 我阿公每天五點起床去做運動
5. arouse (Vt) 喚起 (常接抽象事物)
arouse sb's interest
6. arise (Vi) 出現、起因於
